Summer time is here, the temperatures are rising and so are prices. Plus, your heavy moisturizers and other skin care products need to be replaced with lighter weight options. Now if you’re anything like me, you want something fast absorbing but still hydrating, so you can listen to Christmas music and/or watch Hallmark Christmas movies in July with soft, hydrated skin while eating a pint of ice cream. So, if you’re still looking to switch up your body care products for summer without spending a ton of money, here are a few of my favorite moisturizers that might be able to fit the bill.
1. Wet Skin Moisturizer from Jergens

Retails for $9-$10 at Target

If you are in a hurry to get out of the house this lotion may save you a little bit of time, as you apply it right after you get out of the shower. I like to pat off just a little water before applying moisturizers like this and I feel like it absorbs faster. This lotion smells good, doesn’t leave a greasy residue, and has hylauronic acid as well for some lasting hydration. It is quick to slather on and go, or you can use additional body care products afterwards to really seal everything in. I alternate between this product and the Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer (which has a wonderful citrus scent) however this is an “under $10” post so I chose the Jergens one, but they both use the same general concept.
2. Beauty Cream (for normal/dry skin) from Dove

Retails for $1.25-$5 in store or online at
Dollar Tree and $11 for a four pack on
Amazon

The Dove Beauty Cream is a face and body moisturizer that leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. It’s pretty fast absorbing for a cream, and it feels way more luxurious than the price would ever suggest. I have also used this as a “primer” in the winter and it wore very well. I stock up on these when I go to Dollar Tree because there doesn’t seem to be a full size of this particular product available in store at big box retailers near me (at least in the United States) although I saw these online at Target during lockdown, but they don’t appear to be there anymore. I’ve also seen a larger container occasionally available on Amazon (about $11) but again this is an “under $10” post and I am very stubborn. TLDR: Controversial opinion, I think this is superior to the Nivea cream in a blue jar.
3. Coconut Oil Firming Body Lotion from Palmer’s

I love this. Truly. I cannot speak to the claim about firming or toning but this lotion is more hydrating than some body butters I’ve tried. That being said, it is not going to sink into your skin immediately, so start with a small amount. Let it soak in and I promise you will love it too. The ingredients are amazing and super hydrating, but if you do not like heavy scents or the smell of coconut then you might want to pass this up entirely because the scent is lasting. In my opinion, this could be its own perfume (I’d buy it) and honestly I think it would pair incredibly with a summer fragrance that compliments coconut. Look at the ingredients yourself and consider it trying it. Side note: There seems to have been a packaging change around the the time of posting this, but the lotion is still the same formula.
4. Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Lotion from Up & Up (Target store brand)

So, clearly this is a dupe for the Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant Moisturizer. It even says it on the label. Reviews generally agree that it’s the same except this one is under $3 for a little over 20oz of lotion. Yes, 20oz you read that right. As with the Vaseline one, there are some people that note redness or a reaction to this kind of product so always patch test. Overall, this is the best deal I’ve been able to find for a quick absorbing yet hydrating lotion. It’s a nice consistency as well, not too thick but not too runny so you can apply throughout the day to maintain soft and smooth skin without any excess residue. The scent is lightly sweet, almost like cinnamon but not too overpowering in my opinion. All in all, Up & Up (see what I did there?) has a great summer essential for a total steal.
5. Clear Aloe Vera Gel from Up & Up (Target store brand)

Rounding out the top body moisturizers for summer we have Clear Aloe Vera Gel from Up & Up. This one is dye, fragrance and alcohol free. Aloe Vera gel can be great if you’ve been outside in the heat a little too long or accidentally get a sunburn (this list was made assuming you already have sunscreen though), but this can also be a nice boost to any other lotions or body butters you have. Just apply the gel a minute or two before another moisturizer and you may notice a cooling and more hydrated feeling to where it was applied. A great product to have year round but especially so in the summer.
What do you think of the products I mentioned? What are some of your favorite summer body moisturizers? Let me know in a comment along with any suggestions for future posts you may have. Thank you for reading!
