E.l.f. Liquid Poreless Putty Primer: Thoughts & Review

The Putty line from E.l.f. started in 2018 and has shown no sign of stopping. The current best sellers include the putty blushes and bronzers, but eye primers have also been available at some point as well. The most recent additions have been the putty color corrector (corresponding blog post here) and the new Liquid Poreless Putty Primer.

The tube has 0.94 ounces or 28 milliliters of product (a little less than standard compared to other primers) and costs ten dollars on the E.l.f. website, at the time of writing this post it is still considered a “loyalty access” product online through E.l.f.’s points/rewards program for purchasing products directly from their website but should be more widely available pretty soon. If you haven’t already though, I highly recommend making a beauty squad account on E.l.f. if you use a lot of their products, it’s definitely a great rewards program for such a large brand!

I’ve worn this primer with the E.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation (I use the shade Lily), and the Laura Gellar Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation (I use the shade Porcelain) as well as on its own. I applied it with my hands and pressed it into skin and let it set for about a minute before applying anything else over top and the primer gave a nice smooth and slightly dewy finish, without looking wet. Overall, it gives a nice healthy look to your skin and because of the ingredients it will work relatively well with most foundation or base products.

Even as someone who has had hit or miss luck with the putty line, I cannot recommend this specific product enough. My skin isn’t the most reactive but I do have primarily dry skin with some seb derm around my eyebrows and the sides of my nose, so I generally try to stay away from thick or very tacky feeling products in general to avoid potential flare ups but I’ve only had ONE skin issue linked to an e.l.f. product, being the new putty color corrector. I didn’t get an adverse reaction from the standard putty primers but they did lightly pill regardless of application and felt uncomfortable on my skin.

This is the kind of primer I will continue to use even when I’m not wearing foundation or anything, just to give a healthy glow to my skin when I think it needs a boost. If you’re on the fence about trying this I would go for it, as it is relatively inexpensive, and even if you’ve had issues with the cream version of the putty primer I would still recommend giving this a shot. I’m actually surprised this hasn’t sold out yet on E.l.f.’s website, since I can see this quickly being a new staple for a lot of people.

What primers, if any, do you use? If you have tried this product, how did it work for you? Do you prefer the OG putty formula or want to see an expansion of the putty line in liquid form? Please leave any post suggestions or feedback in a comment, and thank you for reading!
